Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the network or internet goes down?
Door hubs cache credentials locally, so people who already have access keep getting in during an outage. What you cannot do while the hub is offline is add a brand-new credential, because that has to sync first. We would rather you know that up front than discover it during an outage.
Can we use phones instead of cards?
Yes. UniFi Access supports mobile unlock alongside NFC cards and fobs, PIN entry, QR codes, and fingerprint readers, and you can mix them across doors: cards for staff, mobile for management, a PIN on the back door. We size the reader to the door rather than putting the same thing everywhere.
Is UniFi Access certified for commercial use?
All UniFi Access control hubs and readers are UL 294 certified to Level 1 by Eurofins MET Labs, an OSHA-accredited testing lab. That covers destructive attack resistance, line security, endurance, and standby power. Egress and fire-code compliance is a separate question that depends on your door hardware and your local inspector rather than on the access platform, and we will flag anything on your doors that looks like it needs the authority having jurisdiction to weigh in.
Can you work with our existing doors and readers?
Often, yes. Retrofit hubs and readers are designed to reuse existing wiring and hardware where it is sound. During a site walk we will tell you honestly which doors can be retrofitted and which need new hardware, before any work starts.
